GENERAL INFORMATION
MOUNTAIN BIKE GOLD RUSH - Beechworth-Eldorado - A Cross-Country Race / Fun Ride from Beechworth to Eldorado in NE Victoria. Ride to race or just ride at your own pace. There are two categories- Fun Class for those who don't want to race the clock and are content to enjoy the ride at their own pace. There is no prize money for the Fun Class category and riders will not be timed. The other category is the Race class with prize-money up for grabs. All Race class riders will be timed.
THE RIDE- The MTB Gold Rush ride starts at the historic Gold town of Beechworth and follows a short section of the Rail Trail followed by quiet dirt back-roads in the bush, some singletrack and then along bush tracks into the the mining town of Eldorado. Total length is approximately 34km (25km and less climbing for the non-competitive FUN CLASS). There is of course some gradual uphill climbs but remember the ride starts in Beechworth at an altitude of 550 metres and finishes in Eldorado at 250 metres above sea-level. It doesn't take a genius to work out that there's some fun cruisey downhill riding to be had. A BBQ Lunch and drinks are available in Eldorado (and we finish next to the pub!) It's all about having fun so give it a go !
COST -Entry price is $15 for the Fun Class and $20 for the Race Class. Compulsory insurance for the event for everyone is through Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA). If you are not a member of MTBA, a day licence is available for $15.
HOW DO I GET BACK TO BEECHWORTH ? - At the end of the ride in Eldorado, riders may take advantage of the optional transport available for you and your bike by bus and trailer for a small fee ($5) back to Beechworth. Please book and pay for this option on your entry form to secure transport. Alternatively, you or your friends can arrange your own transport shuttle. Buses will leave regularly from Eldorado to Beechworth until the completion of the event.
LOCATION - The town of Beechworth is around a 3 hour drive from Melbourne in North-East Victoria. Travel up the Hume Fwy past Wangaratta and take the Beechworth turnoff. If coming from the north, Beechworth is a 35-40 minute drive from Albury/Wodonga. Follow the signs through Wodonga to Beechworth.
ACCOMODATION - We highly recommend that riders stay in the Beechworth area the night prior to the Mountain Bike Gold Rush event. For all your accomodation/travel enquiries and bookings, please call the Beechworth Tourist Information Centre on 1300 366 321. There's a range of accomodation available in Beechworth ranging from Caravan Parks to Motels, B&B's and pub style rooms. For non-riders, the town and area surrounding Beechworth has lots to offer- great shops, galleries, museums, a famous Bakery, walks, Historic Park and more !

TIME/ PLACE- Meet at the old railway station (the start of the Rail Trail) in Beechworth (will be signposted as you come into town from both directions). Registration (compulsory for all riders) is from 8.00am-9.30am (Fun and Race Classes) on race day. There is also registration the day before (Saturday September 30) between 6pm-7.00pm outside the Beechworth Bakery. If you're already in town then, please take advantage of this to save time and register on the Saturday evening.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING ? - Riders must be fully self-sufficient. Please bring along at least a basic pack with spare tubes and tools, water, some snack food and anything else that you're likely to need on the track. Helmuts are of compulsory. Oh yeah, don't forget your bike !!
CAN I REGISTER ON THE DAY ? - Yes, but we strongly recommend that you pre-book and send your entry forms with payment in to us to save you time on the day and make our job easier. If requiring transport for you and your bike from Beechworth to Eldorado, please pre-book and pay to secure a ride. Please do not post your entry forms and payment to us after Monday September 25, 2006. Entry forms sent after this date may not get to us in time. After this date, please enter and pay on the morning of the event- registration is from 8.00am-9.30am.

A limited number of Mountain Bike Gold Rush t-shirts have been printed (design as per above on the back, small bike on mud image on front without writing) on 100% cotton, navy t-shirts. Please contact us if you would like to order your own t-shirt before the event, or take a gamble and buy one at the event. Cost is $25 and available in S, M, L and XL or until sold out.
